چکیده

Validity of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) measurements recorded over the human posterior fossa after Xe inhalation was tested. Recording of counts from both brain stem and cerebellum (BSC) was reproducible and contamination by counts derived from surrounding anatomical structures was low and no greater than that found over hemispheres. BSC values were F, = 99 ± 19 ml/lOOg brain/min, F2 = 17 ± 4 in reasonable agreement with data reported from experimental animals. BSC flow values showed significant correlation with the state of awareness as judged by clinical and EEG evaluation with lowest F, values in semicoma and step increases in stupor, non-REM sleep, drowsiness, rest, activation, REM sleep and highest values during focal and generalized epileptic seizures. Critical appraisal of cerebral blood flow measured from brain stem and cerebellar regions after 133 Xe inhalation in humans.

Validity of regional blood flow (rCBF) measurements recorded over the human posterior fossa after 133Xe inhalation was tested. Recording of counts from both brain stem and cerebellum (BSC) was reproducible and contamination by counts derived from surrounding anatomical structures was low and no greater than that found over hemispheres. BSC values were F1 = 99 +/- 19 ml/100g brain/min, F2 = 17 +...

133Xe inhalation method for measuring cerebral blood flow in conscious baboons.

The non-invasive Xe inhalation method was modified to measure regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) of both hemispheres and brain stem-cerebellar (BSC) regions in baboons to serve as a model for clarifying and validating human studies. Measurements were made in the alert, unanesthetized state at rest and during activation with spontaneous respiration in a primate chair or during sedation or anest...

Improved Method for Noninvasive Measurement of Regional Cerebral Blood Flow

A clinical method for noninvasive measurement of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and blood volume (rCBV) is described, based on Obrist's 10 minute, desaturation method after 1 minute inhalation of Xe. Sixteen collimated probes are placed over both hemispheres and brain stem-cerebellar regions. End-tidal Xe curves are used for correction of recirculation. KEV discriminators are set to record...

The pattern of brain perfusion SPECT in non-medicated schizophrenic patients

Introduction: Studies with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) have revealed inconsistent changes of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in schizophrenia. Some studies investigated the rCBF and its relationship with psychopathology, positive and negative symptoms in treated patients. However, there is a little information about the pattern of rCBF in ...

Effect of various blood glucose levels on regional FDG uptake in the brain

Objective(s): Studies have mainly assessed the effect of hyperglycemia on18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in the brain. In this study, we assessed the FDG uptake of the brain not only in normo- and hyperglycemia but also in hypoglycemia to compare the effect of various blood glucose levels on regional FDG uptake in the brain. Methods: </...
